We had the privilege of honoring a hero. John Cox, US Air Force Veteran, was presented with a handmade, one-of-a-kind quilt to honor his service to our country.John was an Aircraft Electrician and reached the rank of Master Sergeant. He served a total of 35 years including four years active duty (April 1962 – April 1966) based at McCord AFB, Washington. John had 31 years of reserve duty with multiple deployments around the world including Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, England, and Italy.
John’s Air Wing group served as a search and rescue team for many ocean recoveries of astronauts and their space capsules upon their return to Earth. In addition to this very important action, the Russians were always in the general area hoping to grab one of our astronauts or the space capsule to learn our technology. The C130s would fly low and slow over the Russians to discourage them. He would fly out of Vandenbosch Air Force Base for the space capsule recovery missions.
As an aircraft electrician, John worked on various fixed wing and rotor aircraft, some vintage World War II planes, including the C124, C5A observation plane, the C130s,KC97s (refueling airplanes), KC135 (troop transport), Huey helicopters, and the Sikorsky helicopter (aka Jolly Green Giant).
Thank you, John Cox, Veteran US Air Force for your dedicated service to your country.
As veterans come under our care, we are honored to give them a Quilt of Valor. Quilts of Valor honors veterans with a quilt as a token of our appreciation for their service. The quilts are made by volunteers across the country. Some quilts are completed by one sewer; others are touched by many loving hands, but all are presented with pride and thanks. Quilts of Valor honor veterans in the US, Canada, and Australia.
Quilts of Valor (QOV) is an organization that honors service members and veterans with a quilt to say, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation”. To date, more than 340,000 quilts have been presented to veterans. Quilts of Valor started in 2003.
