VNA & Blue Water Hospice leadership honors staff quarterly through the ‘Shining Star’ program, recognizing the extras they do for each other, their patients, and the community.
Cindy has been at the Blue Water Hospice Home for almost two years; however, she has been with VNA for more than nine years! She started as an intern at VNA and was offered a position at the end. She says she loves the organization and her co-workers.
As a CENA, she assists with patient care including bathing, eating, educating patients and family, but, most dear to her heart…listening to the patients, holding their hands…being a friend. Patients and their families are at their most vulnerable point once they enter care at the Hospice Home. She says, “I can give them comfort, and with that, I have the satisfaction of a job well done…a job with meaning.”
Thirteen years ago, Cindy lost her mom to Alzheimer’s Disease. At the time, she overheard a nurse express to her mother that it had been an honor to care for her. Cindy knows firsthand what families are going through and how helpless they feel. Just as families are grieving, so are the staff. “We all come to think of our patients as family. When they pass, we cry – how can you not? It means you are good at your job. It means you care”, says Cindy.
Waneta recognized Cindy as a Shining Star!
“She is always willing to help. She provides her patients with excellent care and helps her fellow staff. She is a true asset to the team.”
