VNA & Blue Water Hospice leadership honors staff and volunteers quarterly through the Shining Star program, recognizing the extras they do for each other, their patients, and the community.
Let’s get to know Theresa!
What do you do at VNA & BWH?
I assist clients with activities of daily living such as hygiene – bathe, dress, style hair, etc. to running errands such as grocery shopping or doctor appointments. I also help with household chores like doing dishes, prepare a meal, and light housekeeping. Basically, whatever they need help with, I am able to provide assistance.
Why did you choose this type of work?
It makes me happy to help someone feel their best. My grandma was an RN. When she got hurt, I’d take care of her. She was the RN in the room when I was born so we’ve always had a special bond. My dad is another reason I do this work – he, too, was very special to me.
I love my job. I like meeting interesting people – they make my day fun.
This work gives me the flexibility to spend time with my kids and grandkids – they are my world. I have two children, a stepson, and step-grandkids – love them all so much.
Why do you choose to work at VNA & BWH?
I did similar work at another agency prior to coming to VNA. It was ok, but I felt it was too large and I couldn’t provide the one-on-one care I wanted, the work-life balance was nothing like here. I started here as part-time and when a full-time position opened, I took it! I love this agency – the people are very nice and sincere, and my boss is always there for me.
When needed, I fill in for the home care and hospice divisions – we just help each other out.
What is a favorite memory you have of work?
Everyone is so kind. Everyone helps everybody else. When I started and had to use a tablet for my documentation – I wasn’t good and the tech took their time with me until I felt comfortable.
Janet recognized Theresa as a Shining Star!
Theresa has been with the agency since August 2021 and has been taking care of all her Private Duty clients and covering multiple Home Care clients since October as well. Many clients request her to return to help them. She never says no. She will call daily to inquire if anyone needs coverage. Her philosophy is everyone deserves excellent care. Theresa really is what VNA is about and I am so glad she is part of the Private Duty team.
