Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Edmond Fitzgerald was honored by VNA & Blue Water Hospice recently for his years of dedication to the medical needs of the Blue Water Area. Surrounded by his family and VNA & Blue Water Hospice friends, he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award on November 26, 2024.
For his time in the U.S. Army Medical Corp, Dr. Fitz was presented with a Quilt of Valor. He began at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was later transferred to Fort Wayne in Detroit as the Physician in Charge. Dr. Fitz served from 1955-58.
Dr. Fitz grew up in Detroit and spent summers in the Blue Water Area. After high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a physician. He joined practice with Dr. Bottomley and later Dr. Balboa. He was a volunteer physician at the People’s Clinic. Dr. Fitz also was part of Blue Water Hospice from 1998 until his retirement from the organization in January 2024. Throughout the years, Dr. Fitz has served on many boards, helping numerous individuals while shaping the health care of our community.
