VNA & Blue Water Hospice leadership honors staff and volunteers quarterly through the Shining Star program, recognizing the extras they do for each other, their patients, and the community.
Let’s get to know Breanna!
How long have you been with VNA & BWH?
I have been at agency for three years.
What do you do at VNA & BWH?
As a social worker, I provide support to patients and families at end-of-life and after. I work mostly with our community-based hospice population, but I occasionally work with those in the Blue Water Hospice Home.
What do you like best about working at VNA & BWH?
I have more than 13 years’ experience in hospice social work. Prior to VNA & Blue Water Hospice, I worked at an agency outside of our community. I am so happy to be in my community…serving my neighbors in their time of need. I’m impressed that we have a full spectrum of caring from Private Duty to Home Health care in the home to Hospice care – both in the home or at this beautiful facility. Even after a loved-one has passed, we continue to provide support through our bereavement program.
In my position, because of the variety of service I provide, there is never a dull day! I appreciate the flexibility we have here to make our own schedules with the patients/families. Some I see weekly, some less frequently, maybe just once a month, it’s all what they need from us.
Why did you choose this type of work?
It’s a calling I just can’t explain it. It feels right to help people leave this life with dignity and love. I fell into hospice care, and I’ve never left. I am meant for this line of work.
Jessica recognized Breanna as a Shining Star!
“Breanna deserves to be recognized as a shining star as she is always going above and beyond for her patients and families. She will drop whatever she is doing to help someone in need or crisis. She always demonstrates a positive attitude with a calming demeanor. Families had praised her on many occasions as being so kind and thoughtful and referred to her service as a social worker to “divine intervention” and how they could not get through a challenging time such as losing a loved one without her support.”
