In 2001, Jennifer earned her degree in nursing with a desire to work in either oncology or hospice. About ten years ago, Jennifer lost her mom. Upon experiencing the good that hospice care workers do, she knew this is where her heart truly was.
In her previous employment, Jennifer had the opportunity to work with various hospice agencies. She was familiar with VNA & Blue Water Hospice, “I chose to work at VNA because of the exceptional level of care that I had witnessed over and over.”
In her position, she goes into patient homes providing care to manage their symptoms, maybe make them something to eat, give emotional support, and much more. “I don’t feel like I’m just completing a task, I actually feel like I’m caring for patients and their family,” she says. “To me this is what nursing is all about.”
Jessica recognized Jennifer as a Shining Star!
“Jennifer has really taken on the role of leader/mentor to her Hospice community coworkers. During the pandemic, she has been a calming presence with a gentle approach to ease fears. She has continued not only her own caseload but has taken on-call shifts during weekends and after-hours. Her efforts of going above and beyond do not go unnoticed.”
