VNA & Blue Water Hospice leadership honors staff quarterly through the ‘Shining Star’ program, recognizing the extras they do for each other, their patients, and the community.
Let’s get to know Lita!
What do you do at VNA & BWH?
I manage and provide treatment to our patients from beginning to end. I make referrals to appropriate other departments such as medical social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, home health aides, and dietary. I monitor health status and report any changes or concerns regarding a patient’s health. I educate and comfort patients through their healing process as well as their family. I provide any ordered treatments such as wound care, labs, etc.
What do you like best about your job at VNA & BWH?
While working in other facets of healthcare, I found the patient loads of 30 or more per day was overwhelming, I felt like I wasn’t truly making an impact. At VNABWH, I see typically see 5-7 patients a day. I get to know my patients personally, make my own schedule, and I can start as early or as late as I (and my patients) want. I like that I’m not punching a time clock. I am more satisfied here and feel I’m making a larger impact. And my co-workers…they are a great support. At VNA & BWH, you are treated like family here. We are a team in the truest sense of the word.
Why did you choose this type of work?
When I was young, I witnessed my grandmother caring for her aging parents and I was inspired. I knew I needed to further my education so I could provide care to others. I’ve been a RN for more than 12 years. During that time, I spent time in both a hospital and nursing facilities. I became curious about home health and the process of it.
Jennica recognized Lita as a Shining Star!
“Lita has been a pleasure to work with since day one. She is hard working, a very knowledgeable nurse and provides excellent care to her patients. She strives for perfection and has an eagerness to continue to learn. Lita has picked up extra shifts, worked extra weekends and does so with a smile. Lita demonstrates our agency values every day and has really stepped into her case management role. I know she will continue to grow at VNA & BWH, and I look forward to working with her for years to come. Thank you, Lita!”
