As an RN in the Blue Water Hospice Home, Lucie’s responsibilities include caring for patients (and their family), admission, and educating patients (and family) on their individualized plan of care. She stressed that once you choose to work in hospice care it’s hard to do anything else, and this type of care is a real niche and important work, “I believe it’s a privilege to care for hospice patients”.
“I’ve worked in a hospital; I know that you rarely have the time to sit with a patient. At the Blue Water Hospice Home, we are encouraged to take that extra time with patients and family – hold their hand and talk to them.” She likes that the agency promotes this caring behavior in addition to the support of leadership. “VNA is very good at providing those special moments for patients – to my knowledge, every ask we’ve had for a patient has happened”. She mentions that her wonderful co-workers are an extremely important part, they are supportive of each other. “And, this beautiful facility, every room has a scenic view!”
