VNA & Blue Water Hospice leadership honors staff quarterly through the ‘Shining Star’ program, recognizing the extras they do for each other, their patients, and the community.
Let’s get to know Mariah!
Mariah is the Revenue Cycle Supervisor and has been with VNA & Blue Water Hospice since July 2001.
What do you do at VNA & BWH?
I oversee billing and payroll, specifically processing it for the Home Health division. I act as the timecard resource – answering questions and training. And I participate in month-end financial activities.
Why did you choose this type of work?
I enjoy numbers. I think more analytically so finance is something that interests me and is a strength of mine. I see it as a puzzle – putting the pieces together so things balance.
Why do you choose to work at VNA & BWH?
I started here right out of high school. A friend worked here and told me about a temp opportunity. The biller at the time was retiring and I was trained for that position and upon her retirement became the full-time biller, eventually growing into my current position.
I enjoy the staff; we have a good team. It is a family feeling with flexibility for a good work/life balance. As a smaller organization we have that flexibility.
What is a favorite memory you have of work?
Nothing in particular – I like it when the entire agency – all employees and volunteers can get together. It doesn’t happen often, but that’s what makes it memorable. Long ago we used to have cookouts in the parking lot with fun events like pie-in-the-face – engaging and fun. It is a lot of work to put things like that together, but when all staff can gather – it is always fun.
Kelly & Rachel recognized Mariah as a Shining Star!
She is the epitome of kindness. In addition to her normal tasks, she has taken on leading the new payroll transition. Even when Mariah is busy, she still takes time out of her day to assist us with questions and guide us on next steps. She always does so with such patience and a positive attitude. Mariah is extremely valuable to the agency, and we just wanted to let her know that her hard work does not go unnoticed. Thank you, Mariah, for everything you do!
