“I was drawn to VNA & Blue Water Hospice because the agency is very community-minded, and I believe in their mission. I worked with a for-profit organization and it just wasn’t for me” said Sue.
In her position, Sue connects with families after a loss – some want to talk, some want to cry, she is there for all of them, whatever their needs. Typically, she follows the family for 13 months after, it depends on their grieving needs. She helps lead various support groups and memorial services.
As a natural caregiver, Sue started as a home health aide then moved into the office. “I didn’t know anything about hospice but moving into the office gave me a better picture of the whole organization,” says Sue. “I enjoy helping others. I always wanted to be a nurse, but life took me in another direction. In what I do now, I can still be there for patients, families, and the staff.”
Jeannie recognized Sue as a Shining Star!
“Although she is part of the Hospice team, when Home Health Care needs her, she was there to step in and help…without hesitation. Sue has an ability to connect with anyone, whether it be a patient, family member, or staff. While she is perfect in her role in bereavement, I appreciate her willingness to help anyone. A true team player!”
